FAQ

*Do you make Toil & Bubble soaps yourself?
We proudly craft every micro-batch of Toil & Bubble soap, and we have proudly (with some exceptions which are no longer with us) created each bar we offer through trial and error.

*Are Toil & Bubble soaps vegan?
All of our products are vegetarian, and most are vegan. The exceptions are as follows due to the addition of local honey -
Honeysuckle Bar/Denise’s Mother of All Bars/Honey Oatmeal Bar/Cold & Flu Bar

*Why are vegetable oil-based soaps better for my skin?

Vegetable oils, unlike petroleum- or animal-based oils, penetrate the skin and work harmoniously to moisturize from within, rather than creating a temporary, soft-feeling layer on the surface. Because they penetrate and then rinse clean, they are less likely to leave an oily residue that can clog pores.

*Is it okay to use Toil & Bubble soap on my face?
Unless you have incredibly sensitive skin or allergies, it should be perfectly safe to use Toil & Bubble soap from head to toe (even on your hair, although if you’re washing your hair with our soap, we recommend our Big, Beautiful Shampoo Bar!).

*What steps do you take to run your company sustainably?
We consider sustainability to be an ongoing journey, and are continuously working to improve ours. We use minimal labeling on our bars, use only recycled packing material, and recycle all of our supply containers. This year we are struggling to reduce our use of plastic, and reviewing the sustainability habits of our vendors, most of whom are on the same page as we are, environmentally speaking.

*What are the differences between fragrance oils, oil infusions, and essential oils?
Fragrance oils are synthetic blends of scent compounds mixed with carrier oils. They are made with care and useful for capturing scents which are impossible to create through other processes, or for use when an essential oil would make the resulting product cost prohibitive for the customer. Infusions are oils that have been permeated with the essence of an herb, bark, or flower through a cooking and soaking process. They are useful for capturing hard-to-find scents and for adding an extra “kick” to bars that need it. Essential oils are concentrated chemical compounds of a plant that have been extracted through a distilling process. They are generally stronger and more effective for bars that we expect more than just cleansing from, such as our Peppermint Bar, which is effective for headaches. We use a combination of all these oils to make our soaps. The fragrances oils we purchase are made with care and are designed for use on the skin. We make our own infusions, and we purchase out essential oils from two vendors, both of whom have sterling reputations in the skin-care field.
